Hello everybody, today I attended a public meeting held on a hot day for sure at the surf lifesaving club at a place that was once called Sunny Sands.
I’ve had an affinity with Lifesavers for most of my life. My dad was one of the members that built the bricks and the building for Wonthaggi Royal lifesavers Society at Cape Patterson.
He also helped build when they blew up the rocks with dynamite charges to form the rock pool there in the rocks at the bay . He was a Victorian champion reel and line team member.
And me and two of my sisters followed suit and spent years volunteering for Lifesavers.
So the problem at Inverloch is apparently over the last few years they have now lost 120 m of the beach to Sand erosion and the waves are now lapping up right near there clubhouse and lookout facilities.
There’s been sandbags placed at the foot and in a stairs configuration to try and hold back any further storms that hit the place .
It’s hard to stop nature but it can be done .
Well the club has over 1000 current members that are active in all different facets of life-saving so it’s very important community asset that must be retained at all cost.
There was a fairly large crowd gathered at the foot of the lifesaver building with the guest speakers lined up on top of the sand to address the large crowd, there was all sorts of placards in amongst the crowd. I found interesting.
Two hours before the meeting I got a reminder notice on my phone and I was asked to comment on the issue.
The comment can be seen on my website and on Facebook as well.
Alan Brown an EX liberal member of Parliament and representative in an overseas position in England chaired the meeting , and in very hot and testing conditions. I think there was around nine guest speakers ranging from the president of the club the local mayor , Drew Gin members of the life saving inverloch committees also interestingly also present was the new opposition Librel state leader Brad Battin , I noticed
Deb Lennard in the crowd .
I did note the particular absence of the one local politician that could actually make a difference to gaining a satisfactory and a swift rectification of the actual problem here
Her name is
Miss Jordan Crugnaile and she is the sitting Victorian Leglislitave Assembly as an MP representing Bass Coast .
One would have to assure that there was more important things going on in her electorate for her to be a non attend at this large publicised public meeting .
So all the speakers had a short go as it was hot and the tide was coming in but I still took on board some interesting details like the Federal government has allocated and pre paid 3.4 million dollars to help rectify the problem ,
But the crowd was informed that that was being held by the current state government until its further researched into a suitable rectification method resulting in the end of the sand erosion problem . And they want to wipe their hands of the matter .
Alan informed the crowd that it wasn’t nearly enough money to even start the project .
I hope that Alan and the committee and community read my submission and see that my idea would be super low cost leaving the remainder of the allocated funds in the clubs hands .
I had hoped that they read out my short submission to the crowd but I admit I was really quite late in posting it .
So then the Liberal leader Brad spoke to the crowd addressing and acknowledging everybody concerns and giving his personal undertaking and pledge to fix the problem if he is successfully elected next state election that is a mile away .
So we now have a massive future problem at that particular beach and come Easter time it brings with it to our beaches massive , King Tides , of which will threaten the very existence of the clubhouse as it in its onslaught will move mountains of sand away from the underneath of the clubhouse , then at this point unfortunately all is totally lost .
We can’t allow this to happen, we need to fast track our solution long before Easter .
That club is super important to locals and holidaymakers alike .
So in a nutshell I’d like all the concerned parties to to just read my submission and judge it on it’s merit,
It’s a solution that can take place really quick and it’s a mostly a recyclable green proposition and project , one that possibly can just save the Surf Clubhouse and amenities for many years to come all at a fraction of of the cost of a stone wall
Cheers xxx
