Hello everyone yesterday at noon I attended the first blowing of the mine whistle in Apex park , after its absence for a while as it was being carefully restored.
It was I believe one of only two whistles made and crafted in England and its the only one left in service and existence.
The other one is just a little bit damp to blow as its attached to a rail on the bottom of the Ocean on board of the Titanic.
So the sound is quite drowned out.
The ribbon cutting was performed by Mr Dan Carr
Who is a legendary person in our community.
He is pictured there beside Froggy Wilson , another town legend.
While I was waiting I glanced at my car keys in my hand , i realised that I had unofficially brought along my grandfather as his mine pass is on my keyring ,
No 161.
So i guess there was a lot of miners also in spirit there to hear that famous whistle blow .
There was a bit of music from a band and a bit of a delay at the countdown to the actual whistle , but it was worth the wait ,
when it blew it was loud , proud and strong,
Just like the miners spirit.
It was nice to have it back
Cheers xxx
