I never went in that race Griff I do vaguely remember it as I think the scouts entered it,
I made my own billy carts and made my little sister push me around,
Poor Meg
But I had a fantastic memory the other day of way back when the Wonthaggi Apex club owned a dunking machine,
For a few years it used at local charity events like Fates ,and I
remember seeing the likes of , John Doosher ,
Kev Donahue ,
Quacker MacDonald. Etc , I dont ever remember Curls having a go as it would put out his smoke .
There was a frame built above with a seat on it built out of an old oil barrel,
And below it a water plunge tank full of cold water.
There was a barrel and a small chain attached to the side of the on a pin mechanism , with a target trigger that when hit will pull out the pin and wet the volunteer.
So kids and adults would enthusiastically throw the ball at the target especially if it was a school teacher.
So thats the Apex dunking machine , it was back in the day quite exciting and fun.
I never got to have a go but I sat on the seat sometimes and I imagined what it was like it in my mind along with millions of of other thoughts hopes add dreams .
Cheers xxx
