Hello everyone,
well Blackie and I ventured off to the big smoke to
The beaut suburb of
East Brighton,
because my old spa had broken down a few weeks ago, so i spent a bit of time and I hunted down a suitable , reasonable condition second hand spa, in
East Brighton ,
I thought That it may be a good one so I looked up the brand and I was pleasantly surprised, with the report it was top quality in its day and it even features stainless steel jets .
So on Friday night mum rang to wish us both luck , ii said that l hope that everything goes super smoothly and we have no hassles.
So we ventured down tho East Brighton when we got there and we thought we would have a good look at the job before we start the mission ,
I tried to haggle John the owner down on price , on seeing the job , before deciding to tackle the big job head on .
I started pulling the gate and the gate frame off the building and post as there was even then like going to be only 2mm gap to get the spa out through.
Blackes started ripping up the decking boards that it turns out ironically that they were made of plastic,
The boards were made with a hollow sandwich construction , and apparently they are really good in application as s deck but they are way too hot underfoot in summer.
I discovered also then that the spa frame is made of stainless steel.
The spa certainly was going to be a challenge as the deck was built right around it and the spa was sunken half a metre lower in the ground,
I think that its dry weight is around half a tonne.
We all got the front of the spa up on to two wooden skids on the edge of the deck , and I was undoing the junction box at the bottom of the spa when Blacks shoved the back of the spa snd the spa fell off the front support timbers and straight backdown into the hole where it had come from .
The problem was that I had my hand jambed in the gap and the spa came down so fast just like a gulitine , but my reflexes were prety good it seems and I got my hand out of the way , ln one piece and I gave Blackie the wats for for doing that , but we continued to attack the job and suddenly the spa popped out and it was just sitting on the deck .
We leaved and blocked the spa up onto its side a bit , and then the three of us lifted it right up on its side.
Then the task came of getting it through the gate .
We put wooden stays under the now really tall spa , and we wiggled it and slid it through the gate into the driveway a bit at a time .
I backed the trailer up to the spa leaving a 700 mm gap , I removed the tailgate and the three of us rolled the spa shell into my trailer and then I used two sets of 2.5 tonne tie downs and I snugged it down tight all ready for the trip home.
I pulled the ratchet on the strap so tight it started to bend the spas stainless tube frame .
It towed all the way home really quite well and that was pleasing as we had all of the side dress panels off the unit and this allowed the wind to blow through it and wind resistance to be minimal.
So it used less fuel.
So when we got home Blacks and I positioned it in its place with the aid of three farm fence posts as rollers and the electric lead was now too short .
So I looked again at everything in the morning and we decided it was better to turn the spa 90 degrees and then everything just works .
So now its been cleaned out and filled with pure well water , This spa is fitted with an oxygenator , which is sort of a little bit like a salt chlorinator , allowing for less chemicals like chlorine be necessary.
The filter I cleaned with the pressure wash and I have to now cross my fingers and hope that Casey hooks up the power to it soon.
And we are good to go .
As well I was going to write a story about recycling plastics because of the composite deck material on the site
So the funny thing is with everything that Blackie has now picked up the job of repairing and replacing the boards on the hole we left in the deck
So alls well that ends well .
Anyone want a spa?
Cheers xxx
