Hello everyone,
Well this morning I have rubbed down Kylie in preparation for painting,
her,
The primer was really weird and not really what id call a filling primer,
as it had dried off so bright and shiny and as smooth as glass and it reminded me of like , rubbing ceramic ,
So I tried to rub it with my machine and 400 grit
Not a hope in hell and in the end i had to use 120 gritt just to be able to break through the shiny coat.
The primer was not cheesey and nice and easy to hand or machine rub but it was like hard and a rubbery type compound .
But its for underwater and boats so its the one for me .
So i have got a new plan ,
Because i have now rubbed through the thinner than expected primer coat in too many spots,
The
Next step now is to rub her completely down again this time with the machine , mwith a soft sponge interface pad on it and loaded with 400 grit paper .
So
When I do actually get to paint it , I’m going to re coat her completely first with a thin coat of wet primer ,
to seal it off with hopefully no runs this time and then we will use the wet on wet method on this girl ,
and then pile the paint on.
The wet on wet method is you apply primer and after just a short flash off time you apply top coats .
I have to first go today and buy some good quality joint sealer like a paintable urethane,
Because where the mounting bolts come through the top of the fish ,
they need to be sealed off well, To stop them from twisting and keep everything inside Kylie dry .and from the harsh natural elements .
So now i have nearly exhausted my sandpaper supply in the shed
And Im off to a birthday lunch for my sister and brother in law soon ,
So ll see what i think when i get home from there and maybe we will spray her again .
This time dark dark Blue.
How exciting .
Cheers xxx
