Sorry but I forgot to mention that when it comes to our water board, there’s never too much public controversy.
We’re back in the day after this new water tower was built. The public controversy at the time around water , was quite large as the local water board wanted to add fluoride Into our drinking system , it was quite an unpopular choice for some I think . At the time this idea was opposed mostly by the Australian dentist society.
That at some stage and definitely in
South Gippsland Waters case, I believe that fluoride was added into our local water supply.
The public debate continued on for years.
I believe in the end the fluoride was removed from our drinking water much to the delight of our dentists as cavities then became much more prolific.
I luckily enough still at 56. do not have a filling in any of my teeth, I do have a cap on my front tooth from an early childhood Mishap.
My father insisted that me and my sisters have a fluoride tablet every day. It worked for me but unfortunately not for them.
The only other major drama that I remember for the south Gippsland water board was a major outbreak of blue Green algae at the Canowie Reservoir.
Other than that the biggest threat that I can see now facing us all in the future and facing the water board , would be, initiated by the government because they’re so desperate for cash now and they are considering selling off our publicly owned water supply.
We can’t ever let that happen ,and when we take a look at the outcomes of all of the governments previous prioritisation and selling off of our public assets.
They tried it not so long ago in Sydney, unexpectedly to a mass public out cry against it, the public protest was so big it forced the city council to move a motion at their meeting to protect any future attempt to sell Sydney water in the future.
Somehow then it was addressed and the written that it was never to be privatised in the future into law.
I put out a public facbook post , and I also contacted Bass Coast Shire Council, and I suggested that every water authority in the state of Victoria should follow Sydney example and pass by a law that our public water boards could never be sold.
Unfortunately, like most government departments I failed to receive a response.
I don’t like privatisation as a concept. It’s just robbing Peter to pay Paul, unfortunately for us we are all Peter and in the end financially it costs us hell of a lot more , I wish that none of this was true but it certainly is.
So you politicians out there why don’t you actually get yourself s together and actually do something for your constituents,
Move the motions to secure our most important publicly owned asset
For our future of affordable water for everyone.
It’s a good start but only a small drop in the ocean .
Cheers
