No Viennese Frankfurt’s

Hi everyone  ,

they say that change is for  the good , but it is not always ,

this is something that happened to me last week at my local Woolworths supermarket in my hometown of Wonthaggi and I thought that I’d share it with you and see what you think

As we are all well aware going by the changes that have gone on , in both the Wonthaggi Woolworths and Coles stores in the past few years and also in their stores all around the country for that matter,

That It shows that neither of the supermarket giants actually care about either customer service or satisfaction.

But they only care about profits .

Both stores in Wonthaggi no longer have in store butcher shops , so all of the meat that that is now sold in both stores  and we buy , is all now delivered to the stores , pre packed ,

this has cost quite a number of local jobs in house ,

but you must remember that the reason for all of those changes is to reduce their company’s labour costs and  to have their profits maximised ,

Late last week I felt the urge for a hotdog , but I wanted no ordinary hotdog  , I wanted a Viennese  frankfurt

I wanted those products as I believe that they are actually made from better quality meat and I like them but even though they are a lot more expensive than the others to buy .

So I went into Woolworths and made my way to the deli , the person working there was busy serving someone else so I didn’t bother take a ticket as I was the only other customer waiting.

I patiently waited to be served at the hot dog and frankfurts  section of the deli , and I looked at the display case , but I couldn’t spot the Viennese  franks anywhere so I naturally thought that they must be out the back ,

when I was served , I politely asked the person if they could get me a couple ?

They answered a resounding no , and said

that they don’t make them anymore ,

then they corrected themself ,

and they stated to me that Woolies , their employer don’t want me the customer to stand there at the counter of the deli and order one of those and one of those and two of those anymore in the future.

They stated to me that the supermarket want everything that is in their deli to be pre packed in the near future , and then displayed for sale in big fridges ,

and then the aim is for the in store deli , to be shut down permanently,

was what I was told .

I must admit that I was shocked and surprised by that information but

I believe that they have already slowly started and that shredded ham has also already gone and been withdrawn for sale from the Woolworths deli ,

and I know that ham steaks went to pre packed ages ago I think to four in a pack it’s a pain and a waste if you are single and  if you only want to buy one or two.

This  change in operations will do a number of things for the two supermarket giants ,

number one ,

it will reduce its wages bill marginally with a lot less staff needed to serve customers as now they only would be needing the staff as packers for the display case will be all that will be required.

I commented to the person that with my basic understanding of the gst and the way it operates , it will then have to be added into the retail price to all the prepacked deli food , as it’s  been changed from its original form by being pre packaged which is a service , therefore making everyone’s deli shopping tax inclusive and even more expensive.

It will  also automatically increase our polystyrene tray consumption  and increase our plastic waste because instead of us using a single plastic bag and paper wrapping like we do now direct from the deli , the bulk of everything will then come in plastic wrap and styrene , so adding to and not by choice to all of our personal environmental impacts.

Also our choices as a consumer will be greatly reduced ,  as the supermarkets will also sell so many more products in larger volumes and this way making more profits for them as it actually lifts its turnover and profit margins as that’s all that they really care about .

It is already happening right under our noses

I personally like the service of the deli , it’s one good part of shopping where we get to interact socially with employees and we get to control the amount and quantity of the goods that we buy , I’d hate to see it disappear under this sneaky plan .

Somehow if you disagree with the planned future closures you need to let them know that we the public should be more important  than just profits and that customer service needs to be put back as a high priority on the list ,

So i wonder is pre packed  a fresh food idea ?

I think I personally prefer the deli

How about you?

This is written the information relayed to me by  a Woolies employee

I don’t believe that they are happy with the proposed changes to the system

Neither am I ,

But I believe it’s exactly the same on the agenda for the future at Coles supermarkets also

It’s just a matter of time as the person informed me .

So after all In the end I had to settle with two cheese cranskys for dinner and then I accidentally burnt them

Cheers .
