I think the practice goes on no matter what party is in charge , and the practice definitely needs to stop.
With the poor position that Australia is currently in we now need the best candidates available for us to fill the important roles in government , and in all positions , to be advertised publicly , no more of this internal jobs nonsense,
It cannot be just a jobs for the boys or girls anymore ,but to have candidates apply for and go through a rigorous application and selection process to make certain that they are aptly qualified for the given position.
It’s time our politicians serve us the people and lift their performance in all departments to a standard that is acceptable to the people that actually employ them
