The trip to Cairns

So as you can imagine from what I described I just about drove non-stop to Cairns. The roads were pretty good. Traffic was good but as the temperature warmed up my VlL Commodore started to fall apart.

The first thing that went with the headlights they wouldn’t work on low beam so I wired the low beams onto the high beams to keep me going but of course the lights are shining way too high. All the oncoming traffic at night time would be flashing their lights to me and that was okay until trucks came along as they high beans were absolutely blinding and I couldn’t see anything when they put them on at all.

So everything was going wrong one thing at a time, especially with the electrics and all the charges and stuff. I had to charge everything as I went .

Everything was playing up even brand-new GPS I bought from Autobarn in Wonthaggi was playing up badly and it was like everything was working against me .

I did get tired some times  so I’ll call in to a random truckstop.

These were really good places as they had in the service stations eith showers and toilets for their customers and travelers.

Where you can refresh yourself for free, so I rolled out my swag in the car park next to my car. Hoping that a  truck doesn’t come in in the middle of the night and run me over while I’m asleep.

I wold lay on top of my swag and stare at the stars as they were so different than the stars at home and I’d dream of a bright future for everyone and peace before getting a little rest .

So I’ve stopped in one of these places not far from Cairns and taking a rest and a shower before I got there. It was stinking hot. I got to my mates place he lives just outside of Cairns in an outer suburb.

It was only 10 minutes from Cairns. I think half an hour to Mosman maybe. So I was that tired that I couldn’t even back my trailer into the driveway so i left it out on the road and hit the bed in the unit out the back. Only to find that there was another tenant using that room , but I knew him he used to be in a Star bike club and it was Trevor.

Over the next few weeks I started exploring a bit and sort of looking for somewhere else to live independently because I was used to having a house on my own. I probably wasn’t travelling that well in my mind these things happen and it was a beautiful part of the world to be in at this time..

Port Douglas was just down the road and I really loved it last time I visited there as I have friends there so spend a bit of time in Port Douglas.

I discovered a small country town called Mossman and it was a gateway to the Daintree rainforest. It had a nice little church a few shops in the street and I ran into the local aboriginal tribes that we’re living in vacant lots roughing it and camping, they invited me to live with them.

I kindly declined but said I’d like to meet the elders soon but they said I should look at gorge first as that’s a jewel in the crown in Mossman,

I went to the gorge. It was a great setup with a great information centre and it was a deal done under the native land rites and it was completely controlled and run independently by the aboriginal community it was there’s .

I met a few people there to have a chat with and there’s a gateman or gatekeeper to check your tickets on the way up to the gorge. I’ve got talking to him he said that the gorge was open to me to visit 24 hours a day and night that I could just come in whenever I wanted I thanked him for that and I left.

The police had noticed me around town and in Cairns and they would regularly talk to me , they didn’t mind me carting my bow but they disapproved of my leatherman mut but I had a doggers and riggers ticket that allowed me to carry it on my person,

They spoke to me and  warned me in Mossman to stay away from the local aboriginals, as they were preparing to stab me.

One of the local aboriginal men took me that night to see the elders of Mosman. I was surprised when I was invited into their  house how clean inside it was and I was welcomed  into the lounge room.

There was probably five young men and the two elders sitting on the couch we started talking about aboriginal affairs they were hesitant at first but soon had built a bond and we spoke about the problems facing aboriginals here in Australia ,

we discussed a few ideas on how to fix it. We sort of came up with plan. That in some of our national parks on the Four Corners of the country they be put aside for aboriginal land and culture reservations and that land that white man is banned from unless invited.

This gives them the opportunity to live their culture free and un interfered with. By white man.,

This will secure the future of our animals .

This will go a long way to treaty with our native Aboriginals and Taurus straight Islanders.

Then we work together in partnerships outside that inaugural agreement and this will bring peace harmony and unity to all Australians.

But it wasn’t over yet I had to pass the next test when the five Aboriginal men took me outside as another original man walked in to the property up the driveway.

The five men surrounded me as a question of just who I was and what I really wanted and what I was doing there.

The other man approached. He was the local aborigines best fighter, his reputation was he was undefeated.

I knelt down  on the ground , in a sign of peace , but the situation changed when that man began to kick me , reasonably hard while I continue to say that I ment then no harm . I think some of the other blokes by then joined in, so I took a bit of a beating because that’s what they felt about all white men .

In the end I stood up and maybe my eyes were shining green because they all ran as fast as I could in different directions which smoke of their shoes ,

and it was over.

I went to my car and drove away. I then realised just five minutes down the road that I had left my phone behind.

So I turn the car around and drive back. I went to the house and up to the sliding door and I knocked on it. I could see them inside they had locked me out I sort of chuckled to myself , but eventually one of them slowly unlocked  the door and handed me my phone through the gap,

I said thank you and I left again. I then accidentally dropped my phone on the road and shattered the screen. I was pretty pissed off.

I went home for a sleep and I went back to Mosman the next day to the service station. The police pulled in beside my car and asked me to come over for a chat.

They asked me what happened last night because on the grapevine  they heard that this bloke had run away like a crybaby.,

I didn’t say much but they were happy and smiling as they really didn’t like this bloke at all, so I made their day

I went into some real estate agents to look for a rental property. They sent me to a few local ones to look at which  they were fantastic because they basically had their own lush rainforests in the backyard but I didn’t get any of those houses.

So the guy from Ray White sent me off to have a look at the house in the Daintree rainforest.

To be continued

Cheers xxx
