Hello everyone ,
The weekend has started early and well for me.
I have a fishing competition and thought id kill a few birds with one stone and take my bow to the shop to restring it , and take my amplifier to be repaired also.
So i get to Springvale to the bow shop and I spoke to Chris about the job but i had noticed that it didn’t look broken as it had a loop in the loose end .
Luckily for me it had just jumped off and Chris rerouted the string and said its a bit dry.
You can lubricate the string with a substance called rosin , that i have st home , its sort of like a wax and it works a bit like dubbin on your
Doc Martens .
So that saved me a fortune so I brought some new arrows with my savings.
These are like cars in quality and construction materials.
There is do many to choose from,
I chose some medium quality shafts that cost like $13 and the top of the range were $24
Cheep ones are about $6.
Then it gets more interesting,
The shafts come in one length,
They are hollow and have an internal thread.
I had a few old arrows in my case so Chris used one to measure the cut length of my shafts then cutting them to length in a special drop saw jig.
Then the attachment to the new arrow of the feathers , or flights that give the arrow stability and direction in the air in flight .
They get like hot welded on in another machine with one of the feathers a different colour indicating the correct way up when you put it in your bow.
Now everything is done snd Chris says time for a test in the firing range next door .
So next door was a twenty meter range, with heaps of targets on the back wall .
I had one of the shops wrist trigger setups on and I gees I was a nit nervous as i drew the bow , and I took aim .
To me the peep site was too big a hole so i found judging where the arrow would hit was a tad difficult.
I squeezed the trigger hoping for s bullseye but unfortunately it was not to be.
But i smacked the target in the second ring so not bad.
I had told Chris that i hadn’t fired it in about seven years , he said not bad.
He said that my string may not last very long and he will modify the loop on the string next time to prevent it ever jumping off.
While he was stringing the bow i looked around the shop and something caught my eye
A Crossbow
I think every boy likes crossbows ,
Im no exception.
I asked about the licence that is required to buy one of them?
Its a special weapons license , a bit like a
Samari sword or a set of nunchucks.
I think i have the application for a special weapons licence in my filing cabinet at home as i was always one day going to apply.
So my gps had been mucking me around already but going to see the amplifier repair man it was terrible.
It took me everywhere else but where i wanted to go .
About ten resets and I found the address.
So i have tried to turn on the amp 50 times and its dead,
I checked the power supply and board .
Nothing.
I rang this shop a few weeks ago and sorta got the rundown of the costs and it was possibly going to be expensive but its a high end unit running 9/2 cinema quality sound.
I wasnt feeling confident but carried it in to the shop and plonked it onto the counter.
The man was so nice snd after a brief chst he opened the case for a visual inspection.
He couldn’t see anything obvious so he said ill plug it in .
I said it would be funny if it worked lol
He plugged in a lead and turned it on and it lived.
I couldn’t believe it .
Hd fiddled around with bc all the settings for a few minutes telling me it had registered a speaker fault and if they record three in a row they automatically go into a shut down mode .
He also noted the corrosion on the rear terminals and said that its too good for outside.
So my lucky

day continued and he said no charge
Brilliant.
So the fishing competition
It’s another Reel it in fishing competition this weekend but this one is completely different as its not exclusively flathead , bream are also allowed to be weighed in .
This competition isn’t a teams event it’s an individual effort this time that counts.
It is also an Australian wide competition.
So me not being tech savvy , I managed to download the reel it in app and then install and set it up .
Wonders never cease,
But i dont know how ill go operating it when i get a fish as i have forgotten my password already, lol
The comp starts on Sat and runs through till Sunday afternoon with I hope lots of fish caught and released one would hope.
My fishing guide Greg has chosen to fish the Lakes Entrance area with his knowledge and his 6mt centre console Bar Crusher.
She is fitted out with a set of Gregs new prototype and under test Elite Bass Boat Anchors.
I have been involved with their development over a number of years of years .
So it will be good to use them to our full advantage.
His company and equipment can be viewed on the Rooworx facebook page and the website is currently under construction.
Im a bit more excited than usual because this competition isn’t instead of just lures and plastics only ,
but this time we are allowed to use live bait .
But bugger , we are not
Greg hasn’t fished with bait for about 13 years and he swears by plastics and lures and your hands and clothes stay clean and your sandwich at lunchtime doesn’t actually taste like a pilchard .
Every time we go fishing together he proves his point ,
but its a hell of a lot more active a type of fishing with casting out your plastic so many times over a day it can be tiring especially if you catch nothing,
so a few days of casting in a row is testing if you arn’t used to that type of fishing.
So our plan is to go to the Lakes Entrance area and poke about in that area there.
We are staying at Metung which I have stayed before and its such a beautiful quaint little village and it has an amazing hotel built backing right onto the water.
So we are all set ,
boat is loaded and packed we went out for our traditional tea at Mordy pizza in Mordialic and as usual it was delicious and I spilt a whole glass of red wine on the table.
So its goodnight from me hopefully early tomorrow ill be filming pulling in a fish ,
Maybe as big as Kylie .
