Is the garden done?
So today is the first time we have got back to the garden after dad came home from respite on Monday ,
So I still haven’t finished the mulching and we do need to do that , so I hooked up my trailer before going to pick dad up ,
Firstly he thanked me for the garden as mum had taken him down to look at it yesterday ,
he then asked me straight away if we could get a load of mulch today ,
I said great minds must think alike as the trailers hooked up and we are off to the tip for mulch first up.
At the tip they load you by the metre and my trailer will actually roughly take two
So dad keen on the idea of mulch was insisting all the way on the ride to the tip that I get two metres of mulch,
I was telling him that he doesn’t need it , as to do the rest of the veggie patch floor and to fill his new mulch bay it would only take one metre and I’m not piling another meter outside the garden area as that just defeats our whole purpose ,
So as you can see by the video at the top that only one metre got loaded ,
The mulch is a recycled product made in site at the tip , and it’s everyone’s green waste ground up and left in a pile to cook ,
Once ready , in my opinion it makes great garden mulch now , with little or no rubbish in it like it was years ago , and it’s good value for money at $10 a metre loaded on site in your trailer or Ute
Back at the block dad insisted on loading a few barrows for me to spread first and I knew that he wouldn’t last at this forever so I went with it ,
He is amazing man for 88 he doesn’t know when or how to give up as he filled quite a few barrows before puffing out ,
So I continued while he still tried to help and got in the trailer to move the mulch back for me to take on a shovel.
Eventually we got there and that job was done ,
Then we went and had lunch , and we were spoilt by mum with homemade shepherds pie .
When we returned we set up an old bed frame on the trellis , then I went scrounging around and I found a bit of tall old fencing ring lock wire ,
so we then ran that along the length of the trellis and I put a few cable ties on it to hold it in place ,
Now old Curly was a A grade mechanic back in the day and it always amazed me how he has the worst tool collection ever , it has the cheapest spanners and screwdrivers known to man and I dreaded needing a pair of pliers to cut the aluminium joining wire on the main frame , so I went to the shed and found a hundred year old pair and they cut the aluminium wire easily , when we had run the ring lock I said to dad that I wonder if those old pliers will cut and trim off the high tensile wire ?
He said that aluminium wire was soft , and then guess what to my amazement the old pliers cut through that wire so easily that I was pretty impressed and I then rated those pliers as dads best tool ,
By this time the day was getting on so it was time to pack up and take dad home to live for another week
Now it’s easy to just top up the mulch when it’s needed and it’s time for dad to plant his winter vegetables and hopefully soon I can show you some growing plants .
I apologise for my hair in the third video , I’m still getting used to these glasses and I’ll remember to tie it back properly next time
Cheers
