Apparently after last weeks effort, my dad told my mum not to organise me any more as he didn’t need me.
Mum instantly disagreed as this was her respite time.
So today we started off, working on putting the gate on the garden area so dad can start planting in there,
starting with deciding what sort of hinges we needed.
Dad insisted he had some at home, but I had a certain type in mind that I wanted to use and didn’t think he would have any.
So we headed off towards Bunnings, but when we got to Dads road , he pointed down and said let’s go home and get the hinges.
I tried to explain to him. I’m not supposed to bring him back home, except for lunchtime , as it disturbs, Mum’s respire time.
I reluctantly headed to his house, telling him we’re just going to be getting hinges and then leave, and that’s it . I was happy when I saw that Mum wasn’t home , so we looked at the hinges and miracles do happen. He had the right hinges exactly ones I wanted.
A trip to Bunnings to get the screws and were set , Dad was pleased that we used up some of his old hinges and recycled them.
So I put the gate on blocks wood to set up the height of the gate and then proceeded to tec screw the hinges to the gate frame. Then we bent the hinges around the gate post and screwed them on ,
It was going so well and our teamwork was good, as then we sheeted the gate with a piece of iron, that’ll keep the rabbits out.
We fitted catches so the gate can be kept closed and kept open.
Then we went for lunch, Dad told me there was another raised, garden bed, structure, near his compost, so after lunch, I started carrying it over piece by piece to the garden bed.
Dad said hang on a minute that’s not the one I meant. I said you have to take me over and show me and I’ll finish this one now anyway.
So he showed me what he was talking about, but it needs a heap of compost moved out of it first.
So I concentrated on the one I had just shifted undoing the old bugle screws and re fixing them when I assembled it , then I started the barrow in more dirt , meanwhile dad was planting a row of broad beans ,
It was nice to see him using the garden already
He then started to take buckets of mulch on a trolley to garden and tipping them out.
I need to barrow more dirt for the gate opening. While I was doing this, I heard the mower start and thought here we go. He managed to back it out of the shed and he surprised me he unhooked the trailer off of it. I wonder what he’s doing and when I bought another barrow of dirt over I understood,
he was using the mower as a mobile wheelbarrow.
He put buckets of mulch on top of the cutting deck to drive them over to the garden, One was in a bag which surprise me because when I gave him a hand. I lifted it up must’ve been 40 kg and I thought how the hell did you load that bag old man, I guess he is very strong and determined.
This time Dad had enough and asked is it time to go home , I said sure let’s just pack up and finish off
Admiring our handy work as we go
