Flattie Comp 1
Hi everyone ,
well with much anticipation we arrived safely at
Lake Tyres at 9am
So we launched the boat and Greg noticed on start up that the tell tail on the motor for the water pump was a weak stream and he then straightened a fish hook out with pliers to jam in the hole in the plastic outlet .
This managed to sort of make the water stream out of the hole better but not as strong and an indicator of water thats circulating inside the powerhead ,
so after a bit of discussion and a bit of despair we decided to take a chance and head off.
For the uneducated a tell tail is a stream of water to show that your cooling system is operating correctly and is functional ,
When its weak you usually have problems.
Something in your engine cooling system is not working ,
Most modern engines are computerised so genurarly most of them go into limp mode as a way of protecting the integrity if the engine should something go wrong.
So we didnt go to far away from the ramp before turning around and heading back to the ramp, as this was a brand new motor so i guess the stress level in Greg the captain was rising .
We discussed the options on the way in and Greg rang the dealer and talked to him about the issue.
Once back on the trailer and in the carpark Greg drew a deep breath and blew into the telltale fitting.
On the second blow he heard something dislodge in the thermostat .
And we had another go at launching, this time there was a strong steady stream of water indicating a functioning cooling system,
Phew
Out we head to what was to be s long painful day of fishing with so many casts for no return, Greg eventually landed our first flathead just a small one , but a fish nonetheless,
So i ended up cooking some snags for lunch on the portable cooker and frypan , i was happy for the rest from casting as with this type of fishing it just becomes monotonous when you dont even get a nibble,
So right after lunch Greg caught another fish that was about an 80cm fish. So it was a nice reward
That was it for the day millions of casts for no more reward,
So it was time to pack up hit the accomodation and shower before going to the Waterwheel tavern to register and eat dinner ,
The place was fairly full but not as much as it will be tmow night.
So the boys that organise the event Scott and Troy welcomed me back took some money and handed over out grab bag .
I took a pic of what was in the bag
But the measuring mat wont fit in the pic .
So back to the accommodation and Greg forms a plan of attack for tmow and rigs up all the rods ready .
Funny thing is there is s category for the most creative photo so if the fishing is poor we may try that .
Cheers xxx
