Hi everyone ,
well the day started a bit differently as when we got to the boat ramp we discovered that we left Gregs two fishing rods at the caravan park .
A Quick launch of the boat and Jamie and I went back in the car to retrieve them .
So finally we get our key tag at the tavern for the competition and we are off , no engine trouble this time and we are expecting it to rain all day on and off , but luckily in the end it held off all day .
Last time I fished here I lost a monster by getting too excited and trying to winch it in flat out .
So i had a different tactic for this time if i hooked a big one .
So an hour or so later I thought I hooked a big one so i wound it up pretty slow and for a minute there i thought i had actually got off, as it swum towards me , but it hadn’t , and a monster then came to the surface,
Greg grabbed the landing net , but the fish shook its head and spat the hook and disappeared into the murky water in a split second.
Greg was devastated and he estimated the fish at 87cm going on the head size.
I thought oops wrong tactic , and it cost me and the team a great fish which would have been the biggest first day fish going on all reports.
A few years ago I landed an 87 centimetre flathead at this comp on the first day it was my first fish on plastics.
I seem to have a knack of hooking up the big ones but not landing them ,
Hmm
Maybe my love life is the same .
And It’s always on the same rod , funnily enough.
So then we couldn’t even raise a bite and we slogged it then through to lunch time , where i was happy to cook just for a break from casting,
Today it was burgers , a little bit of a drama with the stove but Greg soon sorted that out.
The boys kept plugging away and were also happy later to stop for a burger.
Things were looking grim as we were still on whats called double donuts , meaning zero score .
We moved s around a lot hunting high and low for those fatties.
It was around 2 pm when Greg cracked it for his first fish , 37 cm , he got another Quickly this one at 40 cm and we were now on the card ,
Then soon after Jamie got a ripper fist at 66 cm followed with another at 36 cm ,
I didn’t get another bite at all from the fish in the morning, but thats fishing for you.
By three pm we called it a day as you have to return your key tag and weigh in your fish via your photos, At the Tavern.
So we head back to the caravan park for a wash and the Tavern for dinner.
Tomorrow’s weather forecast is atrocious,
so I guess we will deal with that then .
So it wont be a late night and back up around 5.30 to face the last day ,
Rooworx which is our team was 23rd on the leaderboard , Greg calculated if I caught the first fish we would have been in the top ten .
Lots of team’s actually scored 00 donuts, we nearly joined them .
So we are in with a chance of a top ten finish.
Bring on the fish .
Cheers xxx
