Hello everyone,
Life has a way of challenging all of us along the way , I find that some challenges are hard and some are easy.
Like in lots of jobs now there are strict guidelines to follow and these are generally set out and outlined in our job descriptions.
The thing is with most jobs and especially in Local government employees wont step out of the parameters of their job description , because to them on paper its actually someone else’s responsibility.
So basically every week that I go to visit Max , his wife uses the opportunity to go shopping and run errands while she can.
So this leaves me and Max to our own devices for a few hours.
Its pretty cool we generally just chat and watch tv in the lounge room.
With Max’s ailments, he has to go to the toilet quite often, usually I help him to stand up out of his chair and get his balance before he then takes himself off to the toilet.
After a few minutes if he is not back I stick my head though the doorway and call out to him to check that he is ok ,
I always hear a yes back and he then soon returns back to the lounge.
Last week something happened,
and when I yelled out I heard back for the first time a clear no.
So I went down the passage to investigate but he was not in the toilet so I went down to the back room to look but no Max, it was then I looked in his bedroom and called out to him and I heard answer from him, as there was an ensuite built in there.
In that very second my mind went into a spin with what I might possibly find and encounter when I got to the ensuite door , so I had to prepare myself in my mind for the worst possible case scenario.
There in the ensuite I found Max , just standing at the toilet, his shorts were down at his ankles but with his boxer shorts still on.
First I asked him if he had already been to the toilet and he answered yes.
I knelt down and tried to pull his shorts up for him but only one leg came up.
He was actually standing with all his foot on the other leg of his shorts that had him totally stuck fast there.
I lifted his leg up and I pulled the shorts out from under his foot and back up to his hips, so he could walk again.
I thought phew that wasn’t that bad.
We hit the lounge room and I went to the kitchen to make a coffee.
When I sat down with Max again he clearly and loudly said thank you for what I did.
I said that’s alright mate I just cant leave you standing there.
Lucky I didn’t read my job description because im just there for respite and company but sometimes in life and to help others we need to step out of the square and put ourselves out there, even if we would maybe be uncomfortable in doing so.
Cheers xxx
