Max’s story part 4

Appreciate good health .

Hi everyone,

Today I caught up with Max for his respite . When I arrived Kate was cooking in the kitchen ,

Max wanted to show me the equipment in the shed , some of that will soon enough be for sale .

On the way back inside I grabbed some 12 volt wire to hook up an AM Ariel on the big stereo in the lounge .

So I stripped the ends and put them in the correct ports, and I switched it on , no good at all bad weak reception. I tried doubling the length of wire and it improved it a tiny bit.

I couldn’t believe that I couldn’t pick up AM radio ,

But my first thought was is that it’s an old tuner and they have changed the signal to digital now so may that’s the answer. So if anyone out there knows the solution Max would really appreciate listening to his favourite radio station, if you could maybe message me a solution to the problem that would be fantastic , thanks .

So then instead Max handed me a brand new cd , fresh out of the wrapper as Kate had just opened it , I slotted it in and we both sat back in the chairs and began to chat .

We have a few jokes between us and his dementia regularly cuts in with a hallucination every so often ,

Today he was a fighter , he said to me that a relative had recently won some money and they gave him$570 dollars,

I said that’s good and that he was lucky it wasn’t me that won , as I’d only give him the bird .

Then something funny happened Kate went to the corner of the room and slid something out and then pulled up the cover from it , it was a decorated Christmas tree 🌲 and I laughed and said that’s the quickest ever erected and decorated tree I’ve seen in my life .

By then I was doing it just a little tough on the ear , listening to someone called

Al Marino  crooning away. But because I was having difficulty hearing Max as he wanted to talk with me , so in a way it was a godsend as I turned the volume of the tunes down .

I looked at Maxes arm on the arm of the chair and l watched Parkinsons at play , as his arm shook his fingers were mostly curled over it’s a bit painful to watch so I took his hand and asked him if he could feel things in his fingers like he used to , he replied no, just a little bit .

Kate brought us both a coffee, so I took the chance to watch him drink it , the tide has to be out a bit as the cup is shaking when he holds it quite noticeably and when he presses it up to his lips , the liquid inside is like the ocean on a rough day, so much so that it splashes up against his lips , he takes a sip and lowers the cup till the next sip , it’s such a struggle. But he is a battler.

I ask him how he copes with the constant shakes ., he looked at me and said that he doesn’t.

He is still in good spirits and he asks me then what time is my bed time ?

I laughed and said that I don’t have one mate as I live in my own so it’s whenever.

I asked him what is his bed time , he said he goes to bed early around 7.30  and gets up around the same time in the morning, but I knew he was in bed late this morning as he was still eating breakfast when I arrived.

I said gee  Max you sleep a hell of a lot so maybe you should go down to the new Forty Winks store in Wonthaggi and get a job there , on display in the window sleeping , you certainly would qualify mate .

He cracked up laughing 😜 and it was time for me to go . Till next week .

I did say to Kate that there was something missing from the tree ,

She said what Curly ,

I said a wrapped up present underneath it for me .

😜

Cheers
