Power usage saving
I woke up with an extra thought this morning , to add to my solar and wind generators idea that I have written about here earlier , and it goes like this ,
A while ago in winter I was in a hardware shop and I saw an outdoor solar light that mounts flat on your facia board of your house.
I thought I could use this at home so I brought a pair for my carport,
It was during this winter period , and I installed them ,
I was a little disappointed in their performance because although they lasted most of the night , they were a few hours short of lasting all night,
but the days are short then and now that it’s spring , I have noticed that they are lasting for the whole night darkness period until morning.
This brings me to the thought that all new streetlights fitted in the future in Australia, should be solar powered , both with solar assist .
, and stand alone solar models.
There are a few reasons for having both types that would be manafactured here in Australia.
The first is that until battery technology further improves ,
the streetlight would need to be also connected to the grid ,as to provide a light that lasts all night , during the winter months,
The best bit is in summer the streetlight actually puts its excess power it makes when the battery is at full charge straight into the grid, as it’s all ready connected.
So I guess if you did the maths over the year they would probably not only run for free , but also generate power for our country as a whole and the power saving result should technically lower your couincil rates as that’s what pays to power the streetlights.
The second ,
is just a standalone light with a solar panel either built in to the top next to the daylight sensor that’s all ready there , and we would use then where there is no mains power currently available .
Ok I see another huge opportunity for our country to both manufacture high quality units here and export them all over the world ,
And just like led globes did in your household , they will use less power from the grid.
Can you Imagine just how many kw hours of power we would save as a nation , generated by fossil fuel burning power stations as a direct result of this idea,
Hmm
I have an idea , I think the first one we make should be installed at my mate Griffos St in Cape Patterson ,
As I think that he is living in the dark , or is that the dark ages ?
Like the rest of us
Cheers
