Hello everyone,
For something a little bit different.
I like cooking in cast iron coookware .
And i have a few frypans and saucepans that I use cooking at home and a camping oven ,
and my frypans have seen better days so its now time to restore their non stick cooking surface to good as new.
First ,
i have scrubbed the inside of the pans and then I also scraped them out with a steak knife all in hot soapy water .
Then I removed the wooden handle from one and then its simply dry them and then just a wipe down with oil.
You should not ever use olive oil as the smoke point is to low ,
But most other vegetables type oils are fine.
Today and just for the exercise because I’m completely out of oil so im going to just use the jar of recycled chip oil for the task.
Just take your gloves off and get a piece of paper towel.
Take your selected oil and soak the paper towel.
Now rub it on the inside of the pans and then the bottom , making sure it’s all completely covered.
Of course we have already turned our oven on to full bore ,
it needs to be around 250 degrees to be effective.
We have adjusted the shelves so our pans fit and i put mine as high up as possible for a better and more steady heat .
So just pop them in to bake for an hour and then switch off your oven and walk away ,till tomorrow.
Oil them once again and bake , do this a total of three times ,
And walah
Your newly seasoned easy clean pan just simply its fresh Oil on paper towels and they are wiped down after use .
I as a point of interest have oiled both sides of my pans as the bottom was also pretty ordinary.
I hope you have enjoyed this presentation but ill remind you that theres nothing worse than a burnt cast iron pan or pot ,
They are worth resurrecting into new life and its actually not that hard .
The proof will be in the pans
Hmm
i wonder if i cook a piece of fish in the new seasoned pan , will it taste like chips ?
Cheers xxx
