Reel it in Flathead Challenge

Lake Tyres 2024

Friday our  practice fish day

Hi everyone

So the scene is set for our team RooWorks to have a crack at winning the fishing competition for this year ,

If you ever enter a fishing competition like this , you will see just how seriously the competition is taken by the anglers that are all shapes and sizes and age groups and there are also female teems.

The last comp that we completed in was pre Covid and we finished in the top ten .

The competition starts on Saturday but our journey begins at four am at Greg’s house in Melbourne with everything prepacked in the car and boat we set off for the journey to lake Tyres

I sat in the backseat and I managed to sleep most of the way there,

When we got there the conditions didn’t look that crash hot with black clouds looming all around we launched Greg’s boat and at  the whalf and I noticed that it had heaps of pelicans laying on the end of it ,

so it was a nice welcome for us and we set off on the hunt , trying out different spots looking for somewhere  that we could find the fish that were in bigger numbers to come back and fish in the comp tomorrow.

Unfortunately it wasn’t until late mid morning that Greg’s Brother Jamie landed our first flathead , I was testing out my new smart glasses to try and take a photo and video but nearly every time I tried to take a photo my glasses would say

hair  is in front of lenses so you may see my hair in a video clip later

We continued fishing casting lures through to lunchtime when we had a cook up of sausages in amongst showers we all had wet weather gear on by now and we had all stuck to the task and we all agreed in coming to the conclusion that they just weren’t biting at all ,

We then Fished a few more hours until the rain got too much then we decided to pack up the boat and then we

were off to the tavern to register our teams entry and to pick up our goodies bag , warm up and order some dinner and have a well earned beer .

Well whilst eating dinner a man came selling raffle tickets for the local coast guard which is a great cause so Greg and I bought some tickets and he said if I win I had to get the meat tray

So the draw started and I checked the ticket and had actually won , so up to the lady grab her the next ticket out of a stuffed barrel for the next draw and  grab my prize

I happened to pick the meat tray and headed back to our table to dinner , another draw no luck but on the next one we won again this got the crowd a bit rowdy , but this time I took a bucket with rope and champagne in it ,

So after dinner we headed off on the drive to Metung  where we were staying basically to go straight to bed as we had to get up at five am ,

I wasn’t to confident about the fishing day to come going on just one fish being caught by us three earlier that day

But it will be the same for everyone so things would get interesting.

But at least the wether forecast was promising.
