Hello everyone ,
Well i burned my arm and hand about four days ago.

I must warn you all of the graphic photos of my burnt arm are contained at the end of this story.

I haven’t written about it because fire has been my enemy for a month now
So im aware of the dangers and risks of fire and i have a bit more respect for the flame  now snd so much more ,
than last week .

There had been a few incidents at the ranch in the weeks leading up to up to last week .

My shed is an absolute brothel and a trap within its self ,
So i had been cleaning out my shed over a few days and i needed to weld something,
For my drum-kit

So when Kylie the fish was lowered onto my workbench ,
she was on a big fat foam mattress ,
bed

That was still in as i welded the job and the usual splatter occurred ,
And i thought nothing of it until i stood up and lifted my mask to see fire and the flames were licking at the roof of the shed
All for the whole length of the work bench .

My heart kicked into beat  and i grabbed the burning mattress  in my left hand ans i ,
sprinted to the door,

The wind i was creating was fanning the flames higher and harder onto my hand and  forearm,
I could feel my skin cooking even more with the faster  that i ran ,

I cleared the shed ,
but the ute was parked there
So i skidded sideways past that and i dumped the well alight mattress on the driveway

I wast happy about  that so i picked it back up again and put it in the incinerator ,
where it was mote safely contained,

I brushed the gravel out of my  left hand as i ran back to the shed ,
There were small fires burning everywhere
I grabbed a fire extinguisher off the post and pulled the pin

Oh oh
It didn’t pull it was rusty and swollen in .
I panicked and i started smashing the handle down with my palm in an effort to sever the rusty pin ,

No good,

Fuck

I had a big Red fire extinguisher off over near the house so its a sprint to grab it pulling the pin in the process

All thst training just popped straight into place

Aim low at the base of the fire
And squeeze the trigger

Shoosh
All vision gone and all oxygen gone
I couldn’t breathe but had to stand there putting out spot fires for half an hour ,

Only then i could look st my arm
I had third degree burns and blisters coming everywhere

I pulled off a massive piece of skin with my tattoo on it
I was surprised to see it still in  tact looking at me through red meat .

I ran it under the tap
The pain was so intense and there is no reprieve for the wicked
I went inside and found a bag of frozen veg so i wrapped it up in that till it thawed out .

I then kept on dousing the spot fires  that kept appearing.

I cant speak highly enough of having that fire extinguisher available ,
as it was so fantastic ,
and i almost emptied it .

Once it was completely out ,
i left my arm uncovered for a while fighting off the intense stinging smarting pain , that was in my forearm and in my swollen hand .every time i bend my fingers,
The burns are on the knuckles .

The blisters came hard and fast and i wrapped it up and took a third Panadol as i had to drive somewhere.

I drank lots of water to stave off dehydration and shock as that was a risk .

A few days later when i showed Blacks ,
My arm
he said i should see a doctor to get antibiotics.

I agree  with him so
I re wrap my arm up and for some reason we put magnesium gel on the padding before bandages were applied,

That was a massive mistake
My arm felt like we put acid on it for over an hour as then i go up to casualty to see a doctor ,
and they were quite happy with it and a bit miffed as to why i hadn’t bothered to come earlier,

So my friend Belinda dressed my wounds and told me to come back in two days
Gave me a penicillin script and ordered me
For a doctor inspection in two days,
and that was today.

My nurse cut away the old dead skin and popped the remaining blisters ,
to my amusement she used an old rusty looking skinny old box cutter ,
It was  so blunt .
I asked her while she  hacked away ,
why not use a sharp scalpel,?
there was no reply to my question and i got the orders to keep it dry and go to see a Gp  on Wednesday,

So  the report on my wounds is actually pretty good
My tattoo was in tact and the lady said ,
that i still just have one or two layers of skin  left there on my arm .

Also the granulation of the wound has began
So its all good news ,

On the fire front i hope its all completely snuffed out and i need to get a few fire extinguisher refills organised.

I had another extinguisher near my hand on the wall in the shed ,
but with the shock of the situation ,
i forgot all about it .

So it pays to have your extinguishers at home checked regularly by the local fire brigade so as when you actually need one ,
If you haven’t serviced it and when it ultimately fails ,
When most needed ,
it can be devastating.
