Washing machine

Blast from the past.

Last week I was invited out to my friends house that’s out in the hills near Loch for a bbq tea.
Boat is a sign artist and a client  of his had come down all the way from Bendigo to have some replacement graphics  put onto his work van.
He was an appliance repair man by trade.

Apparently , Boats wife, Michell’s washing machine wasn’t working very well at all,  and the clothes she was washing were coming out nearly as dirty as when they went in ,
by the time I had arrived ,
Sean had pulled the bowl and agitator out of the machine for an overhaul and thorough clean .

My guess  is that farm washing machines get into this state quicker than town machines as their water supply usually comes from a  water tank that contains a portion of dirt and dust particles.

I didn’t  think to take a before photo but the sludge that was caked onto the parts was thick and a philthy  dark brown , and with a bit of a soapy scrub and a brush and then a blast with a pressure washer , they were returned to as good as new and  then Sean  refitted the parts into the machine .

I was pretty impressed as I can remember that when I was younger , there were quite a few appliance repair services in and around the Wonthaggi area ,  repairing nearly everything that broke down at everyone’s home .

Now they seem to be really quite rare and nearly extinct, because most household appliances nowadays are not made to last any length of time anymore or to be able to be economically repaired and or seems that everything  nowadays in this world is  made and engineered to be throwaway , because it makes  companies more profit when you replace it.

So it was great to actually  again see something being serviced and saved ,at the fraction of the replacement cost ,  later relaxing with a sausage and a beer,

So I talked to Saun about his business and i asked if he was in demand for his services , and he told me that he basically had a year booked  in advance .
When I looked at his vans sign writing he had quite a list of appliances that he services and repairs advertised.

They definitely are a dying breed , and as our landfills everywhere all swell more from the non recycled components that the appliance industry waste increasingly creates , and it  then leaves its legacy in the footprint of the Earth and the land we live on all over the planet aches.

It was  now time for Michelle to give it a test , it worked perfectly and everyone was happy and the washing was squeaky clean , so giving the planet a slight break.
Cheers
